Challenge
DEFRA faced a critical need to modernise its digital communications. Content production was centralised, slow, and reliant on limited resources4leading to bottlenecks, inconsistency, and missed opportunities for timely engagement. Visual branding across social platforms lacked cohesion, and internal teams were not equipped to produce content at scale.
Beyond the operational hurdles, DEFRA had a greater opportunity: to lead the way in how government communicates environmental policy and initiatives in a way that's accessible, human, and effective.
Solution
As Producer & Creative Lead, I led a full-scale transformation of DEFRA's content production capability. This included overhauling internal workflows, creating a scalable design system, and delivering nationwide training to empower teams to produce their own high-quality content.
The objective was not just to improve output, it was to embed a sustainable, forward-thinking creative culture across the department.
